There are always opportunities to help GUMC make a difference in the community.
Wesley Meals: We prepare and serve a hot meal to hungry people at Wesley Church in downtown Minneapolis about three times a year on Saturdays. The next opportunity is Saturday, June 2nd. Sign-ups to contribute food and help will be in the lobby of the church a few weeks before we go. The group meets at our church at 9:30 AM and drive together, returning here at about 1:30.
The Donation Station is in the entryway of our church. Recycle your old printer ink cartridges and computers, netbooks and tablets by bringing them to the bin in the entryway. We also accept used eyeglasses for the Lions club, and always accept nonperishable food for the food shelf. There is a bin labeled “Bible for the prison at Lino Lakes” too – we accept any version of the Bible in good condition.
Food Shelf News: Gethsemane UMC provides the volunteers to operate the Food Shelf on the 3rd Monday of each month from 4 – 6 PM. Volunteers do a variety of tasks, from greeting guests to helping them select specific food items to weighing the food before it is taken. The food shelf is located in the lower level of Circle Pines City Hall Building, next to the library. Volunteers are also welcome on other days and evenings for restocking and other general tasks.
We also work at special food basket distribution days, usually the Saturdays preceding Christmas, Easter the 4th of July and Thanksgiving. The next one will be the Saturday before Thanksgiving, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Circle Pines. These events serve many hungry families, providing an entire holiday meal with all the trimmings. See our newsletter for more information.
Be a Pray-er: GUMC has a prayer chain, a group of people who pray regularly for the concerns and joys lifted in worship on Sunday mornings and for additional concerns that arise during the week. They are members and constituents of GUMC who are contacted by the church office at least weekly with the list of prayer concerns, and agree to hold these concerns in confidence. If you would like to be included in the prayer chain, please contact the pastor.
